Grass & Snow		 The black and white ones are actually alpha maps. They're used to make the star and circle shaped edging around the dirt paths. It needs to be combined with another texture that resembles the town map to get the full effect. Animal Crossing City Folk also used this method for grass and cobblestones.

Nah, backgrounds are textures. And these are backgrounds with layering detection via collision/bump map, basically.

(Also how the f did I find this comment so quickly? I just happened to be looking at the textures for this game in the first time in months.)

Kirby		 So based on the fact that these textures exist does it mean that the people of patch land are 3d models? I always thought they were prerendered but these textures suggest otherwise.
